Disclaimer and Web Policy

Please note: Effective September 14, 1997, I have accepted a position in the Program Planning and Development Division of the Office of Earth Science. Although my name still appears on many of the pages on this server, I am no longer in a position to maintain these pages. The following is the web policy I followed when I was maintaining these pages.

Information reached through use of the these pages is the property of and provided by its owner. It is specifically understood that NASA does not undertake to filter, edit or censor the content of information accessed on the network and NASA is not liable for the content of such information.

Web Page Policy

My web policy is consistent with the DRAFT NASA WEB POLICY: Policy for NASA Information Published Over the Internet.

• I make every attempt not to change uniform resource locators (URLs) on this server in order to maintain continuity on the web and avoid "dead links."
• I keep graphics, tables, and special features to minimum for the benefit of those with slower links or older browsers. For most pages, the only image is the standard logo at the top of the page. Graphics include the WIDTH="" and HEIGHT="" image attributes (not standard in HTML 2.0) in order to speed loading and layout of the pages over slower connections (for browsers that support this feature).
• I label all pages with:
  • a "return to" path,
  • the date the file was created or posted on the web,
  • the date of the most recent update,
  • my name and e-mail address
  • the uniform resource locator (URL) to help folks find the page again if all they keep is a printout.
• I used tools like Doctor HTML and WebTechs HTML Validation Service to check dead links, etc.
• My policy has been evolving since I put my first page on the web in early 1994. I have not gone back and updated older pages to reflect this policy unless I see a need to do so based on the content of the page. Older, archival pages may not always reflect the current policy.
